Hero HQ in 3D?!

I feel rather surprised and elated that Ian Ferguson (https://www.artstation.com/artist/infca) decided to do a 3D model of my Noob Hero HQ! Looking forward to see the finished version!

On a side note I did this rough props turn around for him cause the concept I had was too rough to understand what was that. My apologies!

I was inspired by merman and fish scales and viking helm. (I have some soft spot for fin helmet due to Ragnarok online :x )

Working and toiling

The tribes people are early riser since they tend to plan their daily work around the rhythm of nature. Their works include things such as farming, harvesting seasonal items, herding Mo-Fluff (sheep like creature), and making salves or sheering fur to sell. Morning are always the most hectic time for them since the bulk of the work has to be done before the sun is up high on the sky where it could get too hot to do heavy work.

The young would help out with work but will go to the chief house in the afternoon to learn from her. Their studies includes herbalism, legends and lores, bestiaries, trading and wisdom.

In the afternoon, the farmer would take a nap and rest or do some light works such as making salves or handicrafts. When evening comes and sun not too bright, they would go back to farming or fixing houses.They would stop once dusk approaches and their body aches.

It is then, time to rest and get together with their beloved friends and families.

Storytelling and music is an important aspect of the tribes. Both are used to pass down ancient lores and knowledge. It is also a form of entertainment and a cultural activity for the tribes. Usually it would be done after dinner by the oldest member of the family or in a more formal occasion, will be done by the tribes chieftain, accompanied by three musician. The instrument varies depending on the story but most commonly it would be accompanied by drum.

Tribes people Concept Exploration

The tribes people believe strongly in the power of nature. They live in accordance of the season and they reject technology, preferring to rely solely on the nature. Brought up to follow a strict rituals and moral code, the tribes people are kind and warm hearted people.They treat monsters as fellow living creatures and despise the upper world heavy reliance on  the iron harness. 

They worship the dragons, believing it as messenger of the world and protector of their people thus traveler would often see the triangle patterns and dragon heads on their architecture and clothes. The triangles patterns represent fang of the dragon which symbolize power and vitality. Dragon represent protection.

A matriarchal society, their chief is the wisest woman of the tribe. The next chief is often chosen before they are even of age by a series of quests given by the current chieftain. Once chosen, she will be groomed and would learn secrets of the world that are hidden even to the tribes people.

The tribes daily work tend to rotate around the nature such as farming, harvesting seasonal items, herding Mo-Fluff (sheep like creature), and making salves or fur to sell. The tribe favorite past time includes playing music(Singing, lute and harmonica) and story telling by the great chief.

Recently, the only adults left in the tribes are the elderly, the disabled and a few young children. There was a great famine and coupled with irrational behavior of the wild monster, sparked a worry in the community. The chief conferred with the wisest of the tribes and decided to seek help from the capital in the upper world, they sent off a number of wise people as delegates...but they never returned.

A number of able bodied man and woman decided to set off to find out why.. but again, time passed on and they didn't return, so more was sent off... and more and more... until there was no one else to go but the noobhero.

Havent done this kind of stuff for sometime. Lotsa fun!

Wanted to try to bring parts of the cultural design language I have established on the external look into the interior. I kinda wish I could spend more time on it but I had to call it done since I was busy with couple other things.

Adventure of NoobHero: Attack of the Slime King!

Hello! 

Continuing the adventure of noobhero..

This is my attempt to portray the first boss he will encounter.. the customary SLIME KING!! (ta-da!)

I am pretty excited to do this series and would love to continue exploring the world the noobhero resides in. Definitely let me know if there are anything to improve or even just to comment regarding this world I have in mind.

Below I wrote a bit of story on how I imagine the quest will unfold:

Old Maiden in distress:

"There has been an infestation of slime in the area recently!

Their odors and grimes has been an utter nightmare!!  We have had to clean the yard over and over again due to their grimes! And every time their king burp, the wild animals ends up running out of the forest in fear and wrecked havoc on our fertile land!

Please young hero! You've got to help us!"

His fairy guide started shining and chattered in high pitch,

"MASTER!  MASTER! You've got your first quest! Will you accept it?"  

The young hero, who was eager to stop scrubbing the chief's pot and floor, nodded his head enthusiastically. After registering the quest with the pocket fairy (who still cant stop chattering), he checked his pocket bag.

Herbs, check. Antidote, check. Fairy food, check! Seems like he is all ready for the challenge!

In excitement, he dashed all the way to  the village entrance... stopping just a step before it was officially out of the village safe zone. The young hero took a deep breath in an attempt to control his nervousness and excitement.. it instead became a funny contorted smile.. 

"What a weird smile!! Oh~ weirdo master! Weirdo master!" The fairy guide flew around him and giggled. 

Ignoring the fairy's mockery, he took that final step.

LV1 NOOBHERO

Enter the noob hero!

Born of peasant parentage,
in a palace we call village.
Now that he is of age.
and being the only teenage.

Wooden sword he carry
His guide a pocket fairy
He should not tarry
Lest the villagers unhappy

So off he goes to slay a monster
Or to be chase by king slime!

I grew up playing RPG and stuff so as I thought of what would the young me would love to draw, I decided to do some fantasy rpg influenced design.

Hero Exploration sketches.

The Hero is a village boy (since most hero always start off in a village o_o).. the only young man in the village, the moment he grew up he was made to help out around the village. From slaying slimes to gathering legendary herb that grow on the top of a charging bull dragon.

I started the design with thought of a beginner hero.. but later on I went a bit too far and made him look a bit too advanced. Then I thought of armor that they could make from surrounding materials and thought of acorn armor (Too much monhun in my life :x its awesome tho)

Companion Exploration sketches. 

In then end I went with companion E since in my mind she has similar personality as Olaf in frozen. Would be fun to see her saying very very innocently inappropriate things. In my finished version above, I imagine her eating the last healing herb in the hero's pocket and when he was injured she would hand him the half eaten herb while saying

"Master.. I think  you need this!"
