Tech Thursday

"Mr. Tech-thursday! Here to help you fix your cool suit! "

A mini project I had always discussed with a friend.

South east asia is really warm so we really want a suit to wear that can keep us cool when we are outside.

I wanted to take this chance to explore different ways of doing things too. This time around I was inspired with some edgy simple looks and techno/bit songs. But when I started to add in colors and clean it up I kinda lost that part so thats definitely another part I would love to come back and try again in the future!

Tried to apply what I have learned from the three values study here.
Also tried to experiment more with every studies but still tried to limit myself to 30 mins to hour.

The Realest Comic About Growing Up Asian American, And Hating Yourself

This was an interesting read for me, not that I have truly felt the cruelty of racism but recently I experienced a moment where I was looked down for my job choice. I told myself not to get affected by it, since it was such a small thing and i thought it did not.. but it actually did. I was down for a few days and I could not understand why. Felt like I was hollow inside. Then I realized it was a taste of sorrow, humiliation and a strange feeling like my life work being shirked off. It made me small about myself. (After realizing it tho, I found ways to manage that feeling and I still love what I do no matter what.)

Not that I can blame the people who did it. Artist job is not exactly the most stellar in the whole world.. we don't get paid with millions of bucks, we don't get credited almost half of the time, we work nonstop... we do get exploited though and since most of us are "living the dream", and we tend to intentionally let it happen praying that our dream comes true. People often relate the word artist to contemporary art gallery with abstract works too so its very hard for them to truly understand what we do day to day.

But hey... hell yeah its really a fun life!

Also, silver lining of the whole story was that, hopefully it taught me a lesson not to grow old to be an elitist.

Mysterious Castle

trying to regurgitate my lighting and mood study. Limited myself to 3 hr to work on this. 1 hr for thumbs/composition sketch and another 2 to paint and fix perspective.. I need to find a more efficient way to paint and to make it looks finished.

Rainyday

Today I went to the beach to draw and halfway it started to rain.. Washing my ink off.. Truly a strange moment but it felt like a collaboration with nature at that moment. I found it somehow beautiful and I continued to draw the ships until the rain got too heavy and I had to stop.

Color study

Studying various films and artist works. Limiting myself to 30~60 mins work per painting.

Fundamentals

There wont be much interesting art post in the days to come. Going back to fundamentals!
